The provincial capital of Henan, Zhengzhou is a major agriculture producer that lies on the southern bank of the Yellow River. As early as 1990, the city established the Zhengzhou Commodity Exchange (ZCE) as the first commodity futures trading platform. Today, commodities such as wheat, cotton, sugar, oil, and corn are actively traded on the ZCE with more than $500 million in annual contracts. In addition to agricultural commodities, Zhengzhou rose to prominence recently when it was able to attract Foxconn to set up a second campus in the city. The Zhengzhou Foxconn campus now employs some 250,000 people and has become the main assembler of iPhones.
Zhengzhou has a long history of Buddhism and martial arts, as it is home to the famous Shaolin Temple, where students can train in Chinese kung fu. Other places of interest include the Henan Museum and the Erqi Strike Monument.
